Where It All Started
Before Charlie’s Chow became a bag on a shelf, it started with a childhood memory — family gatherings, homemade desserts, and one legendary cheesecake young Clayton was never allowed to taste. That little mystery sparked a lifelong curiosity about flavor, creativity, and making something people remember.
A Name With History
Uncle Charlie’s is named in honor of Dr. Charles A. Carter — Clayton’s great-uncle, a World War II Buffalo Soldier, frontline medic, and later one of the first Black clinical psychologists in U.S. history.
To our family, Uncle Charlie represented excellence, resilience, and legacy. His name became a reminder that food can carry more than flavor — it can carry memory, meaning, and history.
From Fargo to Shelves
Clayton began building Uncle Charlie’s Gourmet Snacks in Fargo, North Dakota, hand-making early batches and refining the flavors one recipe at a time. What started as a small kitchen idea grew into Charlie’s Chow — a premium chocolate snack now carried by retailers across the Midwest.
Every step of the journey has been built with persistence, community support, and a belief that a familiar snack could be made more memorable.
The Snack We Created
Charlie’s Chow was created to take a familiar chocolate snack and make it feel more special — richer, cleaner, and more fun to share.
We start with crispy rice crunch, coat it in Belgian chocolate, and create dessert-inspired flavors that feel nostalgic without feeling ordinary. The result is a sweet, chocolatey snack with a clean finish that leaves no messy residue behind.
